the plan

  • test 11ty's suitability as a text edition platform
  • support CTS/DTS but not be dominated by it in either functionality or UX/UI
  • support TEI but not be dominated by it in either functionality or UX/UI
  • solve the versions problem which is how to distinguish between different versions, editions, manuscripts, etc of a text
  • solve the desk top problem which is that we want to place any available resource in proximity to another one
  • do something with widgets or tools or add-ons, depending on text needs and user requirements
  • do something with data, entitites, and visualizations
  • do something with AI
  • do something with objects
  • supernice download as pdf
  • maybe also reader, either online or as epub

also the plan

  • create something simple
  • create something sustainable
  • create something flexible

crazy idea

  • deposit your text in place X (e.g. Zenodo)
  • docker spin up GitHub pages?

typography

the medium is the message

breken met de metafysica van woord en beeld, vorm en inhoud, denken en zien, denken en doen, hoofd en hand

separation of concerns

  • data separate from application
  • protocols separate from ?
  • semantics separate from ?
  • data separate from presentation
  • data separate from format
  • data (somewhat) separate from functionality

PDF reader

Mozilla's PDF.js has been the best-of-class PDF viewer. for a long time. It is possibly being superseded by Adobe's Acrobat Web, in particular the Document Cloud PDF Embed API.

The technology is based on Web Assembly which is very desirable.

Etienne Posthumus ran a small experiment with this new viewer on a Brill test site. Far from perfect, but certainly a good starting point for new ideas.
